Far East activities: workshops, lectures & documentaries

Festival The Wild Wild East (2 – 6 Feb 2011) offers a variety of activities focussing on performing arts from Central Asia, Southeast Asia and the Far East  in RASA Utrecht.

The Wild Wild East program includes these special features:
Mr. Kim Dong-Won: student of Kim Duk-Suu, founder of Salmunori percussion music.
– he will give an introduction before the performance by the Tori Ensemble Project (Wed 2 Feb in RASA & Thur 3 Feb Bimhuis);
– Sat 5 feb 10:30-11:30 Workshop Korean percussion;
– Sat 5 feb documentary film: 13:30 Intangible Asset Number 82 – followed by Q&A with filmmaker Kim Dong-Won.

Mr. Ha Ju-Yong: Korean composer and ethnomusicologist, stationed in the US, artistic director of the International Sanjo Music Symposium in NY.
– Sat 5 Feb 11:30-12:30 Workshop Korean folk music;
– he will give an introduction before the performance by the Court Music Troupe National Gugak Centre Seoul, followed by Japanese biwa player Kumiko Shuto (Sat 5 Feb Tropentheater & Sun 6 Feb RASA 14:00 uur).
Further activities:
– Prof. Boudewijn Walraven will hold a lecture on Korean shamanism (Fri 4 Feb Tropentheater & Sat 5 Feb RASA);
Wang Li is hosting a workshop Chineese Jew’s harp (Sat 5 Feb 10:30-11:30 RASA) ;
– Another documentary on Sat 5 Feb 16:00: Lineage of the Voice, Korean folkopera p’ansori.
